Severe Weather Advisory
Rosemont College is sharing timely Weather Updates to help keep our community informed and prepared. The National Weather Service has issued a regional weather briefing outlining several impacts expected from Friday, February 6, 2026, evening through Sunday, February 8, 2026. Therefore, the College encourages all students, faculty, and staff to remain alert and take precautions.
As winter weather approaches this weekend, we want to share a few simple tips to help you stay safe in the event of a power outage. While outages are not guaranteed, being prepared can make a big difference. This storm is expected to significantly impact our region; key highlights are below:
- Light Snow: Snow is expected to begin Friday evening and taper off early Saturday morning. Accumulations are expected to be light (generally a coating up to about 1 inch), but brief heavier bursts may reduce visibility and create slick travel conditions, particularly early Saturday.
- Strong Winds: Gusty northwest winds are expected Saturday into Sunday, with gusts potentially reaching 40 –60 mph in some areas. These conditions may lead to localized power outages and could make travel more difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
- Extreme Cold: Very cold air combined with strong winds will produce dangerous wind chill values, potentially ranging from –10°F to –20°F, with colder pockets possible. Prolonged exposure outdoors could be hazardous.
- Marine and Coastal Hazards: Gale to storm force winds are expected on coastal and bay waters through early Sunday, creating dangerous conditions for marine activity.
What This Means for the Rosemont Community
Montgomery County is currently under a Code Blue declaration. A Code Blue in Montgomery County, PA, is issued when winter conditions pose a serious risk of harm or death to individuals without shelter—typically when temperatures or wind chills are at or below 32°F for two or more consecutive hours. During these periods, extreme cold exposure can quickly become life threatening.
Although snowfall totals remain low, combined conditions may increase hazards. Therefore, Rosemont College urges caution. Please allow extra travel time and dress appropriately for extreme cold. In addition, limit time outdoors when possible.
