Severe Weather Advisory
As winter weather approaches this weekend, we want to share a few simple tips to help you stay safe in the event of a power outage. While outages are not guaranteed, being prepared can make a big difference. This storm is expected to significantly impact our region; key highlights are below:
- A significant winter storm is increasingly likely from the evening of Saturday, January 24, 2026 night through the afternoon of Monday January 26, 2026, with widespread major impacts anticipated across eastern Pennsylvania.
- Dangerous cold conditions are in effect, with wind chills expected to fall into the single digits or below zero overnight and persist through much of next week.
- Montgomery County is currently under a Code Blue declaration. A Code Blue in Montgomery County, PA, is issued when winter conditions pose a serious risk of harm or death to individuals without shelter—typically when temperatures or wind chills are at or below 32°F for two or more consecutive hours. During these periods, extreme cold exposure can quickly become life threatening.
- Snowfall totals of approximately 8 – 18 inches are possible in much of the region, with higher totals north and some mixing with sleet or freezing rain closer to the I-95 corridor.
- Ice accumulation may contribute to downed trees and power outages, particularly in areas experiencing sleet or freezing rain.
- Prolonged cold following the storm may slow snow and ice melt, increasing the risk of black ice and continued hazardous conditions.
- Hazardous travel conditions are expected, including difficult or potentially impossible travel, road closures, and significant delays.
- Avoid non essential travel. Students are strongly encouraged to avoid non essential travel during the storm and immediately afterward, when conditions may remain hazardous.
