Rosemont Alumni Tribute: Violet Frances O’Malley

Rosemont College honors the life and legacy of alumna Violet Frances O’Malley. A devoted mother, grandmother, and proud graduate, Violet lived a life marked by faith, family, and curiosity.

Violet Frances O’Malley passed away peacefully on March 7, 2026 at the age of eighty six. She lived in Annapolis, Maryland for thirty years. Earlier in her life, she lived in Laurel, Maryland.

Violet was born on May 22, 1939 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her parents were Robert Taylor and Violet Denny. She later attended Rosemont College and earned a Bachelor of Arts in History. Her love for learning and history shaped many parts of her life.

A Life Rooted in Family & Faith

Family stood at the center of Violet’s life. She shared forty two years of marriage with her beloved husband, Edward J. O’Malley, Sr. Together they raised four children and built a close and loving family.

Violet enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She took great joy in family gatherings and everyday moments together. Her warmth and generosity created lasting memories for those who loved her.

She and her husband also traveled widely during their life together. Their journeys took them across the United States and around the world. These travels included time in Singapore and Japan. Through travel, she experienced new cultures and continued her lifelong love of learning and history.

Faith remained an important part of her life as well. She was a devoted member of Saint Mary’s Parish in Annapolis, Maryland. Furthermore, her faith guided her actions and strengthened her commitment to family and community.

Remembering Violet Frances O’Malley

In addition to her parents, Violet was preceded in death by her husband Edward and her daughter Mary O’Malley Nicholas. She is survived by her three children Edward O’Malley, Jr., Kevin O’Malley, and Violet Corrigan. She is also survived by her brothers Robert Taylor and Richard Taylor, as well as her sister Carol Kitchin.

Family and friends gathered to celebrate the life of Violet Frances O’Malley in Edgewater, Maryland. Visitation took place on Wednesday, March 11th at Kalas Funeral Home and Crematory. Her funeral service followed on Thursday, March 12th.

The Rosemont College community remembers Violet Frances O’Malley with gratitude and love. The College sends heartfelt condolences and prayers to the O’Malley family during this time of loss. Moreover, Violet’s legacy will remain part of the Rosemont story for years to come.
