Hi Rosemont! I’m Sam 😊
I’m a second year graduate student currently completing my practicum here at Rosemont, and I’m so excited to be continuing my internship here in the fall and spring next year. Getting to grow alongside this community is something I don’t take lightly.
As part of that, I’ll be sharing short weekly reflections like this one. Sometimes they’ll connect to what we’re talking about during Friday Focus in the Community Center, and other times they’ll simply be gentle reminders you might need that week.
Fun fact: I wasn’t always in this field. My counseling journey came from experiencing firsthand just how powerful conversations can be. The kind where you feel seen. The kind where something finally clicks. The kind that reminds you that you’re not alone.
Being a listening ear and someone students can trust and confide in isn’t just part of the job for me, it’s something I genuinely feel called to do.
One thing I believe strongly in when it comes to mental health is the power of affirmations. The words we say to ourselves shape the way we move through the world. Especially in college, a season full of pressure, growth, comparison, and change, your inner dialogue matters.
Affirmations aren’t about pretending everything is perfect. They’re about grounding yourself in truth when your mind wants to spiral.
Some of my favorites are:
“This is my story, and I get to write the chapters.”
“I get to control my reactions and responses.”
“I am loved no matter what.”
If you’ve been thinking about coming to the Counseling Center, consider this your sign. I would truly love to chat – I currently have availability on Fridays from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM and am working on adding additional hours for Thursdays through the spring.
You can reach me directly at [email protected], or you can contact the Counseling Center to schedule an appointment at [email protected].
You don’t have to have it all figured out to start; sometimes it just begins with showing up.
A Place to be Seen, Heard & Supported
