Rosemont is proud to highlight the meaningful work of our Summer Stewards program, which keeps the Patrick Herman Memorial Garden thriving throughout the warmer months. This dedicated initiative ensures that one of campus’s most cherished outdoor spaces remains vibrant and welcoming while students are away for the summer.
The garden continues to serve as both a living tribute and a hands-on learning environment, thanks to the commitment of student Stewards and campus partners.
Honoring Patrick Herman Through Stewardship
The Summer Stewards program was created in honor of the beloved Patrick Herman. Recognizing the importance of ongoing care for this special space, the program coordinates essential tasks such as watering, weeding, and general maintenance until students return to campus in the fall.
Moreover, members of Rosegrow, Rosemont’s environmental club, continue to support the garden’s upkeep. Their involvement strengthens the connection between student leadership and environmental responsibility on campus.
Hands-On Care from Student Summer Stewards
Recently, Summer Steward and student Lucia Madron spent a productive day in the Patrick Herman Memorial Garden. She removed strawberry plants, pulled weeds, and prepared the beds for cold-tolerant plantings that will carry the garden into the next season.
In addition, we recognize the contributions from Tori Jones, Lucia Madron, and Cultural Heritage Gallery intern Bryce Simon. Together, they have selected, sown, planted, pruned, and weeded with care and enthusiasm. Their efforts have made a visible difference in the health and beauty of the garden.
As the summer continues, the Summer Stewards will keep nurturing the garden so it remains a peaceful and beautiful part of campus life. We are grateful for every student and volunteer who contributes to this important work.
