Open to the Public Writing Community
Rosemont College invites writers to an inspiring non-credit International Writer’s Retreat & Publishing Seminar in Spain, a journey designed to spark creativity through history, art, architecture, and literary exploration. This January 2 - 12, 2027 immersive experience is open to the public and moves from Madrid to the cultural heart of Andalusia, offering a powerful setting for reflection, research, and artistic growth.
Begin in Madrid: Art, Literature & City Life
The retreat begins in Madrid, a capital of world class art and literature where the Prado and Retiro Park help frame Spain’s imperial and modern identity. Three days in the city will focus on history, art, and literature while leaving time to connect with Madrid’s lifestyle and magnificent museums, including the Museo del Prado and the Thyssen Bornemisza Collection.
Writers will also delve into the literary life of Madrid through a dedicated day tracing the city’s literary heritage.
Journey Through Andalusia
From Madrid, the program moves south into Andalusia. In Sevilla, participants will enter the heart of Andalusian splendor through the Alcázar, the Gothic cathedral, and the city’s Mudéjar heritage. Córdoba reveals the intellectual peak of Al Andalus, where the Mezquita embodies the fusion of Islamic, Christian, and Roman worlds.
In Cádiz, the Atlantic opens a different narrative—one reflecting Spain’s maritime empire, trade with the Americas, and luminous coastal atmosphere. Finally, Granada offers an emotional and architectural climax with the Alhambra, the last great palace of Muslim Spain, and the Albaicín, which preserves the memory of a lost civilization.
A Crossroads of Civilizations for Writers
Throughout this journey in Spain, art, science, poetry, and architecture reveal centuries of cultural exchange between Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. The route moves from the imperial capital to an Islamic intellectual center, an Atlantic gateway, and the final Nasrid refuge. It is both a historical path and a meditation on the rise, coexistence, and transformation of civilizations.
