Once again, Rosemont is excited to share with the community this week’s issue of the Counseling Center series, “A Place to Be Seen, Heard, and Supported”. This week, Sam Keller shares a message of self care for our students. Sam and the Counseling Center here at Rosemont encourage students to take time to do things that help their mind and body stay regulated and supported, especially when life gets busy or stressful.
Self care isn’t one size fits all, and that’s exactly what makes it powerful for college life. Whether you’re juggling midterms, clubs, part time jobs, or just the daily grind, these small, intentional choices add up. Furthermore, the Counseling Center at Rosemont is proud to keep showing up for every student because everyone deserves a place to be seen, heard, and supported. Since the semester can be full of challenges, the Counseling Center is here to support you!
Below is this week’s message of self care from Sam.
A Message of Self Care
Hi Rosemont, Sam here!
“Self care” is one of those terms that gets thrown around a lot, but it doesn’t always mean what social media makes it look like. It’s not solely face masks, spa days, or perfectly aesthetic routines.
At its core, self care is really about doing the things that help your mind and body stay regulated and supported, especially when life gets busy or stressful.
For college students, self care can look really different from person to person. Sometimes it’s getting outside for a walk between classes. Sometimes it’s texting a friend instead of isolating when you’re feeling overwhelmed. Sometimes it’s actually going to bed instead of staying up another three hours scrolling.
Other times, self care is a little less comfortable. It might mean setting boundaries, asking for help, taking a break when you feel burned out, or saying no to something to protect your energy.
The important thing to remember is that self care isn’t about being perfect. It’s about noticing what helps you feel a little more balanced and making space for those things when you can.
And if you’re finding it hard to figure out what that balance looks like right now, you don’t have to do that alone. The Counseling Center is always here as a space to talk things through and get support.
The Counseling Center is open Monday through Friday, 9:00am – 4:00pm. You can reach me directly at [email protected] or email [email protected] to schedule an appointment.
