Rosemont College proudly joins more than seven hundred campuses across the nation to begin Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week. This important initiative invites our community to engage in education, advocacy, and service. It also honors the early work of Villanova students and Augustinian Father Ray Jackson, a longtime friend of Rosemont, who created this national movement fifty years ago. Their commitment continues to guide campuses that want to address food insecurity and housing instability.
Throughout the week, Rosemont will host programs that help students understand the realities many individuals and families face every day. These sessions also offer practical skills and encourage compassionate action. We invite all members of the campus community to visit the Community Center Lobby on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 11:30am to 1:30pm. Each day features a focused topic and gives students clear ways to make a positive impact in their communities and their own lives.
Week Events
- Tuesday, November 18: Learn how to cook food obtained from a food pantry. The session explains how to increase nutrition, store items safely, and prepare simple meals in residence halls. Students will gain useful skills that support healthy and affordable eating.
- Wednesday, November 19: Explore several ways to assist individuals and families who face food insecurity. This event highlights meaningful actions students can take in local communities. Participants will leave with practical ideas for service.
- Thursday, November 20: Review current statistics on hunger and homelessness and learn about local resources that offer support. The session also discusses how to reduce the stigma surrounding the use of these services. Students will deepen their understanding of the challenges many people experience.
