Rosemont College proudly announces two engaging presentations that highlight the rich Irish History woven into the fabric of the institution. On March 25, 2026, the Cultural Heritage Gallery will present two dynamic programs that explore the people, traditions, and stories that continue to shape campus life.
The first presentation will focus on Irish women featured in the critically acclaimed book All Bones Considered: 52 Laurel Hill Women. Graduate and artist Chris Wilhelm, who created the original drawings for the book, will return to campus to lead the discussion. This first event will begin at 3:30pm in the Main Building.
Through art and storytelling, attendees will discover the resilience and leadership of Irish women whose lives left a lasting impact. Moreover, this presentation connects local heritage to broader narratives of courage and community. As a result, students gain a deeper appreciation for the role of Irish women in regional history.
Following the first session, guests will enjoy Irish music, and cocktail hour with food and refreshments.
The Hooves on the Hill: Irish Equestrian Heritage
At 4:00pm, the Main Building will host the second program, The Hooves on the Hill: Irish Heritage Equestrian Heritage. This academic lecture will explore the equestrian traditions that once defined campus life. In addition, it will examine how land stewardship and social exchange shaped the College community.
The presentation will highlight the legacy of the Sinnott family, who built Rathalla as their home and residence. Today, Rathalla serves as the Main Building and stands as a symbol of Rosemont’s historic roots. Mayfield residence hall once functioned as the horse stable, reflecting the strong equestrian presence on campus.
The program will also explore the influence of the McShain family. Notably, John McShain contributed to many campus buildings and became widely known for constructing landmarks in Washington DC. Therefore, his legacy connects Rosemont College to national architectural history.
