Rosemont College Students at #Synod2024 in Rome
At 6pm this evening (12noon EST), there will be a livestreamed event in which college students from across the United States will be meeting with the Secretariat of the Synod in the Synod Hall of the Vatican. This group will include Cardinal Mario Grech, Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich, Sr. Leticia Salazar, and Bishop Daniel Ernest Flores.
This is a historic event in which members of our CENTERS student group, including the Vice President of Thorn Magazine, Secretary of The Rambler and class of 2024 student Elise C. Stankus will have the opportunity to ask questions about the ongoing experience of synodality that we have spent the week discerning and refining. We will be discussing inclusion, accountability, and outreach to historically excluded populations. In other words, we will be in direct dialogue with the voting body of the Synod about issues that personally affect us and the communities we represent.

Secretariat of the Synod
The Secretariat of the Synod organizes and coordinates the Synod of Bishops, an advisory council in the Catholic Church. This council plays a key role by assisting the Pope with advice on important doctrinal and pastoral issues.
- Preparation and Coordination: The Secretariat gathers documents, compiles contributions from bishops worldwide, and organizes the Synod sessions.
- Facilitation of Dialogue: During meetings, it ensures smooth communication and dialogue between the bishops and the Pope.
- Implementation and Follow-up: It helps implement Synod outcomes and follows up on actions or teachings that emerge.
The Synod Hall in the Vatican is where the bishops gather for these meetings. This space allows bishops from around the world to discuss Church issues under the Pope’s guidance. The Secretariat ensures these meetings are well-structured and that the Pope receives valuable insights from the bishops.
These discussions shape Church teachings and practices, addressing topics like evangelization, family life, and social justice.
