Professor Leiby Delivers Keynote Address at Hoover Day Celebration
Rosemont College is proud to celebrate the recent achievement of Professor Emeritus of History, Richard Leiby, who served as one of two keynote speakers at the Hoover Day celebration held at the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library in West Branch, Iowa.
This prestigious invitation recognized Professor Leiby’s expertise on postwar recovery and the lasting significance of Herbert Hoover’s work in Europe. His appearance at the event marked an important professional milestone and brought national attention to the quality of historical scholarship produced at Rosemont.
A Meaningful Keynote on Postwar Reconstruction
During the Hoover Day celebration, Professor Leiby spoke about Herbert Hoover’s role in the rehabilitation of Germany after World War II. Being selected as a keynote speaker at the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library is a notable distinction. The library serves as a major center for research and public education related to Hoover’s life and legacy, making the invitation a strong affirmation of Professor Leiby’s scholarly standing in the field. Distinguished Career & New Book
Richard A. Leiby, PhD, taught courses in European History at Rosemont College for 35 years before becoming Professor Emeritus. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Albright College in 1976 and his doctorate from the University of Delaware in 1984. He is the author of The Unification of Germany 1989 – 1990 (Greenwood Press, 1999) as well as numerous journal articles, encyclopedia entries, and book chapters on 20th century Europe.
His latest work, 1947: Making the World Over (McFarland Press, 2026), chronicles eight key events that mark the transition from the era of world wars to the contemporary world. During the Hoover Day celebration, Professor Leiby also participated in a book signing for this new volume, giving attendees the chance to engage directly with the author.
