NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. – For starters, it wasn’t a bad beginning to the week for the Rosemont men’s golf team. They put themselves in position on Tuesday to make the cut at the 2019 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championships at the Keene Trace Golf Club in suburban Lexington, Ky.
The Ravens were tied for 28th after the opening round of play with a combined score of 28-over par. The Top 18 teams and then the top eight individuals who are not on those team squads are eligible to move into the final two days of the tournament on Thursday and Friday.
Right now, the Ravens are six strokes back as a team of that 18th spot, which is held by St. Thomas of Minnesota.
On the individual side, Stephen Vye had the best score of the day for the Ravens. He shot a three-over 75 on the first day to finish in a tie for 41st place in the individual competition. However, he could position himself to make the Top 8 individuals that aren’t on teams that advance to the second 36 holes of the tournament. Vye was ninth among individuals who wouldn’t advance with their teams if the current standings hold after the first day of competition.
Right behind Vye was Michael Lange, who shot a 76 on the first day of play Tuesday. Lange was one of those who did advance last year to the final two days and finished in the Top 10 overall at the end of the tournament. Paul Fedele was next on the Ravens with an 80, followed by Hunter Mickatavage (85) and Jordan Cook (87).
The Ravens are scheduled to have the morning tee times on Wednesday with the first groups pushing off at 7:30 AM.
