TELFORD – To the left of Cairn’s Stephen Berger and Michael Bormann, they stood together.
Arm in arm. Medals around their necks. Smiles all over their faces.
It had been expected since the time they left the NCAA Tournament last year in North Carolina that Rosemont would again reach this point atop the Colonial States Athletic Conference mountain. On Saturday, they reminded everyone how to scale that in style.
Four Rosemont golfers took the top four spots on the leaderboard as the Ravens took the CSAC championship team title with a 77-stroke edge on second place Cairn to earn a season straight title and a trip back to the national championship tournament, which will take place at the Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Ky. from May 14-17.
All five Ravens who competed finished in the Top 7, with Paul Fedele earning second team All-CSAC honors to go along with Stephen Vye, Hunter Mickatavage, Jordan Cook and medalist Michael Lange‘s first team honors.
It is the fourth time this season that Lange has won medalist status and the third time in the last five weeks. On the difficult track at Indian Valley Country Club, Lange was the only one to post rounds in the 70s among the entire field on the course.
Vye, Mickatavage, Cook and Lange all participated in last year’s NCAA tournament experience. Lange was able to survive the individual cut and played all four rounds last year, while the Ravens were not able to make the team cut. However, that experience turned into more of a national schedule which exposed Rosemont to some of the higher golf programs within Division III. That could prove to be beneficial as the next NCAA experience gets underway in three weeks.
No matter what, however, they have this moment of triumph. One that they had earned 12 months ago. One that appeared to be just as sweet a journey.
