The Rambler Reflects on Rosemont-Villanova Agreement:
The following is the front-page feature from the April 2, 2025, issue of The Rambler, Rosemont’s student newspaper. It was written by Lucy Madron, SGA President and Rambler Secretary.
What Now? Lock In.
After the notorious school-wide assembly on Monday, March 31st, students are left with many questions. What do the next three years at Rosemont look like? What will Villanova turn our campus into? What will be left of Rosemont? Is it worth staying at a school that is closing? It does not feel fair. It does not feel right, but time and time again it seems as though fate is not concerned with fairness. Many have taken the attitude of nothing really matters anymore. Although that notion is understandable, it is currently not the right outlook on this unfortunate situation.
We have an opportunity to show not only Rosemont but also Villanova what we, as a student body, care about. If we band together as a student body and decide not to sit idly by and watch the destruction of this beautiful campus and the erasing of our very long history, we can make a difference. Many students are concerned about Villanova tearing down our buildings just like they did with Cabrini University. However, we are not Cabrini University, we have something they didn’t: time. Time to be involved, to shout from the rooftops who we are and what we want. Every student on this campus has heard how special Rosemont is from alumni, staff, and faculty. We are a part of something special. Although it may not feel special now, we will look back at our time here and think what a shame they let such an amazing institution succumb to that fate. There is magic on this campus. Something that deserves to be preserved, even if not in function, is Rosemont must live on, and it lives on in us. We have to make a decision. The decision to act in defense of the history of Rosemont.
So, students, the answer to the question ‘What now?’ is to leave a legacy. To have the best possible experience on this campus because we have a responsibility to every person who graduated before us, to make the last years of Rosemont the best. Leave this campus in a way that you can be proud of. Leave behind something meaningful even if it’s just memories. Make these last few years on Rosemont campus count. The truth is, it might not matter to Villanova, but it matters to Rosemont. We are not the Wildcats.
We are the Ravens. That is not going away because an agreement was signed. We are still the student body, and we still have a say. It’s your choice as to how you want to leave this campus and it is your choice how you want Rosemont to be remembered. Think of all the people Rosemont, this campus, has allowed you to meet, be educated by, and befriend. As the Rambler, we hope you will do them the diligence to allow them to be remembered well. Make Rosemont proud and be proud, especially now, to be a Raven.
