Rosemont College proudly announces that first year student athlete Gisella Schiano “Gigi” has been drafted into the Women’s Professional Baseball League. This achievement marks an important moment for Rosemont Athletics and reflects her outstanding dedication to the sport. She was selected with the forty fourth overall pick by team Boston in the league’s inaugural draft. Competition will begin in August 2026.
A Remarkable Path to the Draft
Earlier this year, Gisella attended league tryouts at Nationals Park in Washington DC. These tryouts welcomed six hundred women from many nations. She advanced through all three days, and she earned a place on a prospect list of one hundred twenty athletes. As a result, she demonstrated both skill and determination during a highly competitive process.
During the fall season at Rosemont, Gisella showed consistent drive on the field. She quickly connected with her teammates and embraced the values of the program. Off the field, she excelled academically. She is a Cornelian Scholar, which represents one of the highest honors at the college. This recognition reflects her commitment to academic excellence, leadership, and service.
A Story Defined by Resilience
Gisella’s journey in baseball began with challenges. At times, she heard doubts from others. Even so, she chose to move forward with confidence. She later traveled internationally with Baseball For All and won gold at a PONY Women’s World Series in the Philippines. These experiences strengthened her resilience and confirmed her passion for the game.
Now committed to Rosemont baseball, Gisella becomes the first woman to join the program. She will also report to Boston as a talented right handed player who knows how to succeed under pressure. Since the league season begins in August, she will compete for Rosemont throughout her first year.
Looking Ahead to a Historic Season
This fall, Gisella delivered strong pitching, timely hits, and steady defense at second base. Her coaches and teammates look forward to seeing her continued growth. The upcoming spring will be a meaningful season, since it will be the final baseball season in Rosemont history. The team will open on February 14th at Upper Merion High School with a game against Penn State Abington.
Through her work in the classroom and her achievements on the field, Gisella Schiano represents the spirit of Rosemont College. Her story continues to inspire students who are ready to set bold goals and pursue excellence in every area of life.
Rosemont College proudly congratulates Gigi on this extraordinary achievement and celebrates her bright future in the sport of baseball and beyond.
