Rosemont College is proud to celebrate former student-athlete Gisella βGigiβ Schiano, who has been named Pitcher of the Year in the inaugural 2026 Womenβs Professional Baseball League (WPBL) Fan Awards. The entire Rosemont College community congratulates Gigi on this accomplishment!
A Landmark Season with the Boston Hunters
In her debut WPBL campaign, Gigi Schiano posted a 4.73 ERA with 10 strikeouts across 26.2 innings pitched for the Hunters. Appearing in nine games with two starts, she finished the regular season with a 1β0 record while continuing to compete at the highest level of womenβs professional baseball.
Praise from Rosemont Baseball
Former Head Baseball Coach Ross Trachtenberg shared his enthusiasm for Schianoβs success: βI am incredibly proud of Gigi for achieving such an amazing award. She set goals for herself at Rosemont for her first college season, and achieved them all. She did the same for this first professional season as well. Gigi is really an exceptional person. I canβt wait to see what she is able to accomplish next.β
His words capture what many at Rosemont have long known: Schianoβs drive, discipline, and character set her apart as both an athlete and a person.
From Rosemont Pioneer to Professional Honoree
Before her professional success, Schiano made history at Rosemont as the first woman on the Collegeβs baseball roster. That pioneering step, followed by her transition to the WPBL and now a Pitcher of the Year award, forms a powerful story of persistence and progress. Her journey continues to inspire current students and student-athletes who see in her example what focused goals and competitive excellence can achieve.
Rosemont congratulates Gigi Schiano on being named WPBL Pitcher of the Year. From campus fields to professional competition with the Boston Hunters, she has represented the College with skill and determination.
We look forward to following her continued success and celebrate this well-deserved honor with the full Raven community.
