Rosemont College will hold the Reopening Ceremony of the Patrick Herman Memorial Garden on March 20, 2026 at 12:00pm. The event invites students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends to gather in community and reflection. This ceremony marks the official reopening of the garden for the spring season.
The Memorial Garden was established in the summer of 2025 to honor the legacy of Patrick Herman. The space stands as a living tribute to his love of gardening and care for the earth. Since its founding, the garden has grown into a meaningful center of campus life.
A Community Effort Rooted in Care
Faculty, staff, the Herman family, the Society of the Holy Child Jesus American Province, and the Rosegrow student environmental club have nurtured the garden with dedication. Together, they planted seeds, harvested produce, and strengthened community bonds. In addition, the team has begun planning a greenhouse project that will expand opportunities for learning and sustainability.
Ceremony Traditions & Gathering
The Opening Ceremony will include prayer over the earth and the harvest expected in the coming months. This moment of blessing connects faith, gratitude, and hope for the season ahead.
The community will first gather outside the Community Center mailroom for the traditional walking of the bike to the garden. During this procession, participants will accompany Patrick Herman’s Memorial Bike back to its place in the garden after the winter season. This tradition honors Patrick’s legacy and reinforces the garden’s purpose as a space of remembrance and renewal.
