On Saturday, May 9, 2026, a group of Rosemont students led by Professor Joanne Campbell embarked on a day of art, exploration, and community in New York City.
A Seamless Journey to the Big Apple
The adventure began early on campus as students gathered and walked together to the Rosemont train station before boarding a train to Manhattan. Upon arriving at Penn Station, the group navigated the city by subway, enjoyed lunch, and then made their way to the iconic Metropolitan Museum of Art, located along Fifth Avenue at the edge of Central Park.
The highlight of the visit was Raphael: Sublime Poetry, a special exhibition showcasing the remarkable artistry and enduring influence of one of the Renaissance’s most celebrated masters.
Students spent several hours exploring the exhibition and the museum’s world renowned collections, engaging with works of art spanning centuries, cultures, and artistic movements.
Central Park, Dinner & Lasting Connections
Following their time at the Met, the group enjoyed a scenic walk across Central Park to Manhattan’s West Side. There, President Jim Cawley and Suzanne Cawley hosted the students for dinner at PJ Clarke’s.
The meal provided an opportunity to reflect on the day’s experiences, strengthen friendships, and share plans for the summer. Graduating seniors discussed their next steps, including career opportunities and professional aspirations following commencement. As the evening came to a close, students returned by subway to Penn Station and traveled back to Rosemont, bringing an unforgettable day to an end.
The Value of Experiential Learning in NYC
The excursion offered far more than a visit to a world class museum. It provided students with an opportunity to experience art firsthand, engage with one another outside the classroom, and enjoy the cultural richness of one of the world’s great cities. Filled with learning, conversation, friendship, and discovery, the day exemplified the value of experiential education and the connections that make the Rosemont community so special.
