Rosemont College has left an indelible mark on the history of Main Line Basketball through decades of dedication, resilience, and achievement. City of Basketball Love featured an article by David Comer acknowledging the extraordinary history of Rosemont’s Basketball programs. From the introduction of women’s basketball in 1994 to the launch of the men’s program in 2010, Rosemont’s teams embodied the values of hard work, teamwork, and community that define the College. As we reflect on this rich athletic heritage, we celebrate the players, coaches, and supporters who made these programs so special.

The Women’s Basketball Program: A Trailblazing Legacy

The Rosemont Women’s Basketball program began in 1994 as part of the College’s commitment to expanding opportunities for female student athletes. Over the years, the team built a strong identity through perseverance and unity. The pinnacle came during the unforgettable 2018 – 2019 season, when the Ravens captured the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Championship, Rosemont’s first ever basketball conference title.

That championship season was historic. The team finished with an impressive 24 – 4 overall record and went a perfect 16 – 0 in conference play. The championship run included decisive victories in the CSAC Tournament, cementing the 2018 – 2019 team’s place in Rosemont Athletics history.

Head Coach Rayne Reber, in her fifth year leading the program, looked back fondly on that season. She credited strong recruitment for building a talented roster featuring standouts like Ke’alohilani Naone-Carter, Shirle Brown, Ayanna Thompson, and Ashley Murray, who earned Player of the Year honors. Coach Reber cherished that her team was able to make history at Rosemont, a place that gave her her first head coaching opportunity.

Men’s Basketball Program: Building Excellence from the Start

The Men’s Basketball program launched in 2010, shortly after Rosemont began admitting male students. Under the leadership of the programs’ second Head Coach, Robert Hughes, the team quickly established itself as a competitive force. Hughes is Rosemont’s all time winningest coach and was awarded CSAC Coach of the Year in 2015.

The 2018 – 2019 season was equally memorable for the men’s team. They achieved a 15 – 13 overall record and an 8 – 4 conference mark, with strong home performances and high scoring games that thrilled fans. Standout players like Keith Blassingale and Jalil Myers led the way with impressive statistical contributions and leadership on the court.

The 2018 – 2019 season stands out as a banner year for Rosemont Athletics. Both the women’s and men’s basketball teams brought home CSAC championships, creating one of the proudest moments in Main Line Basketball History. These accomplishments highlighted the growth and potential of Rosemont’s athletic programs and brought the entire campus together in celebration.

The men’s team played their final game in February 2026, a proud ending to Rosemont basketball. Additionally, the United East Conference recognized the men’s team with the Team Academic Award for achieving a team GPA over 3.25 for the full 2025 – 2026 academic year.

Honoring the Legacy as We Look Forward

As Rosemont prepares for its scheduled merger with Villanova University in 2028, we take time to honor the incredible contributions of our basketball programs. The players, coaches, and staff who built these teams created far more than wins and statistics; they built character, community, and lifelong friendships.

To every athlete, coach, manager, and supporter who helped write Rosemont’s basketball story: Thank You. Your dedication, sportsmanship, and love for the game will always be part of the College’s proud heritage.
