Look Back at the Memories
As the school year comes to a close, thereās a lot that can come up all at once.
Relief.
Excitement.
Uncertainty.
Even pressure to āmake this summer count.ā
And at the same time⦠your mind might feel loud.
Replaying moments.
Overthinking decisions.
Questioning whatās next.
If thatās you, youāre not alone.
Before you rush into whatās next, take a moment to come back to yourself.
Here are a few simple ways to try and ground yourself when your thoughts start to feel overwhelming:
š Put both feet flat on the floor and take 5 slow breaths, in through your nose, out through your mouth
š Name 5 things you can see, 4 things you can feel, 3 things you can hear
š Step outside, even for a few minutes, and let your body reset in fresh air
š Write down whatās actually in your control right now (and gently release whatās not)
š Reach out to someone you trust instead of sitting in your thoughts alone
These arenāt big, complicated changes.
But they help bring your body and mind back to the present moment.
And from there⦠things can start to feel a little clearer.
As you step into summer, youāre allowed to feel excited.
Youāre Allowed to Rest
Youāre allowed to grow at your own pace.
There is no āright wayā to do this next season.
Because it is YOUR season.
Let this be a time where you:
Slow down when you need to, lean into what feels good, and reconnect with who you are outside of deadlines and expectations.
You made it through this year, and that matters more than you think.
Take a breath.
Youāre allowed to begin this next chapter feeling both grounded and hopeful.
The Counseling Center is always here as a space to slow down, process, and make sense of your experience; not just when things feel overwhelming, but also when youāre trying to understand your growth.
The Counseling Center is open Monday through Friday, 9:00am ā 4:00pm.
You can reach me directly at [email protected] or email [email protected] to schedule an appointment.
