A Spirited Afternoon of Friendly Competition
On September 19th at 3:30pm., students gathered at the Softball Field for the highly anticipated Battle of the Buildings: Kickball event. Hosted by the Office of Student Life, this event brought residence halls together for an exciting game that encouraged connection, activity, and friendly rivalry.
Mayfield Wins Building Battle with Epic Kicking Competition
With a limited number of players, residents from Heffernan and Mayfield faced off in an exciting kicking competition to determine who would earn the coveted Battle of the Building point.
After all undergraduate participants kicked, the teams were tied — until Heffernan’s Resident Director, Darren Manley, launched a powerful kick that pushed Heffernan into the lead. But the excitement didn’t stop there. Mayfield’s Resident Director, Shenan Jackson, stepped up next and delivered a game winning kick that surpassed Darren’s, clinching Mayfield’s second victory in the Battle of the Building series.
Perfect Weather & a Positive Atmosphere
Clear skies and a light breeze made for ideal playing conditions. It was a top 10 day! Music played in the background while students enjoyed snacks and casual conversation between innings. The environment was upbeat, welcoming, and full of school spirit.
Even after the game ended, the good vibes continued. Students lingered to take photos, share laughs, and talk about their favorite moments from the exciting match.
Celebrating Community Through Play
The winning team earned well deserved bragging rights, but the true victory was the shared experience. The Battle of the Buildings: Kickball event strengthened community bonds and gave students a reason to come together outside the classroom.
