Rosemont College successfully hosted a rich and insightful Irish History EventĀ on March 25, 2026. The Cultural Heritage Gallery presented two engaging and educational programs that explored the deep Irish roots woven into the fabric of the institution.
The event offered a wonderful opportunity for students, faculty, staff, and community members to connect with Rosemontās Irish heritage in meaningful ways.
Exploring Irish Womenās Stories Through Art
The afternoon began with a compelling presentation on Irish women featured in the acclaimed book All Bones Considered: 52 Laurel Hill Women. Rosemont graduate and artist Chris Wilhelm, who created the original drawings for the book, returned to campus to lead the discussion.
Through beautiful artwork and powerful storytelling, attendees gained a deeper appreciation for the resilience, leadership, and lasting impact of Irish women in regional history. The session was both inspiring and educational, sparking thoughtful conversations about courage and community.
Hooves on the Hill: Irish Equestrian Heritage
Following the first presentation, guests enjoyed the second engaging program titled āHooves on the Hill: Irish Equestrian Heritage.ā This academic lecture explored the significant role equestrian traditions once played on campus.
The presentation highlighted the legacy of the Sinnott family, who built Rathalla (now the Main Building), and the influential McShain family, known for their contributions to campus architecture and national landmarks.
A highlight of the session was hearing from Rosemont students who recently traveled on a Study Abroad trip to Ireland. They shared their experiences visiting Killarney House, acquired by John McShain in 1956, creating a meaningful connection between Rosemontās past and present.
A Festive & Welcoming Atmosphere
Between the presentations, guests enjoyed beautiful live Irish music, a cocktail hour with delicious food and refreshments. The combination of intellectual discussion and festive celebration made the event both engaging and memorable.
The Irish History Event was a resounding success, offering valuable educational insights while strengthening community spirit. It served as a powerful reminder of how Rosemontās Irish heritage continues to shape and enrich campus life today.
A heartfelt thank you to the Cultural Heritage Gallery, all presenters, and everyone who attended. Events like this deepen our connection to the past while building community in the present.
