HISTORIC DAY FOR XC AT CSAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

HISTORIC DAY FOR XC AT CSAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

Bryn Athyn, Pa- On a day when the course was muddy, the frigid temperatures could have been problematic and the brutal winds causing issues, The Rosemont’s Men’s and Women’s Cross-Country Teams dug deep and found a way to conquer all the distracting elements of the bitter weather on Saturday at the Colonial States Athletic Conference Championships hosted by Bryn Athyn College on Saturday.

The tandem of John Crozier and Kenny Wiggins, on the men’s side, earned second team individual All-Conference honors finishing 10th and 14th overall.  This is the first time in the men’s program history where two members of the team earned All-Conference in the same championship.  The same happened for the women last year for the first time as well.

John Crozier, Senior, ran a career best 31:50 averaging 6:24 pace per mile finishing first for the Ravens and 10th overall.  Kenny Wiggins, Junior, ran a personal course best of 32:32 averaging 6:32 pace per mile finishing second for the team and 14th overall. Chris Briner, Junior, ran a career best 34:58 averaging 7:02 pace per mile finishing third for the team and 22nd overall.  Briner’s time of 34:58 is over a three-minute improvement from Chris’s previous 8k time. Junior, Gabe Rizzo, fought hard through some pain throughout the race but he persevered. Rizzo ran a 37:57 averaging 7:38 pace per mile finishing 32nd overall and fourth for the Ravens.  Tymir Bush, Senior, ran a season best 38:06 averaging 7:39 per mile finishing fifth for the team and 33rd overall.  The Raven men finished third out of seven teams which ties their highest finish in program history.

Rookie, Madeline Brady, on the women’s side, earned first team individual All-Conference honors finishing third overall which is also the highest finish at championships by a woman in the program’s history. In addition, Brady is the the first woman in program history to earn first team All-Conference honors.

As for the race itself, Madeline Brady, Sophomore, ran a personal course best 25:56 averaging 6:57 pace per mile finishing first for the team and 3rd overall.  Kelly Shaughnessy, Sophomore, ran a personal course best 29:55 finishing 17th overall and second for the Ravens.  This was Shaughnessy’s first race back in over 1.5 months.  Dominique Caldwell, Freshmen, ran another personal course best of 31:20 averaging 8:24 per mile finishing 23rd overall and third for the ladies.  Isabella Moraschi, Senior, ran a 32:03 which is an improvement of over a minute from the Preview Meet on the same course just three weeks ago. Moraschi finished 28th overall and was a strong fourth placer for the team.  Dillan Leonard, Senior and first year runner, ran an incredible, career best of  32:09 finishing 29th overall and fifth for the Ravens.  Marissa Ryan, Junior, ran a career best 33:12 finishing 32nd overall and sixth for the ladies.  Ryan’s 33:12 is an improvement of over three minutes.  Najah Coon, Freshman, ran a 36:52 finishing 44th overall and seventh for the Ravens.  The Raven women finished in a fourth place tie with Keystone College, which is the highest finish in program history for the women.

“The men and women both ran outstanding races and executed the plan perfectly,” Ravens Head Coach Raymond Miller said.  “Both men and women did exactly what they needed to do today to be successful on a very difficult course filled with steep hills.  I could not be happier with the results today.  These men and women make me very proud to be their coach.”

The Ravens are back in action on Saturday, November 16th for the NCAA Mid-East Regional Championships at Lehigh University
