Rosemont College is incredibly proud of alumna Linda Romanowski, who recently appeared on Good Day PA to discuss her book, Final Touchstones.
On June 18th, Linda joined host Brett Thackara for a heartfelt conversation about her family’s immigrant journey and the deeply personal story behind her writing. This appearance shines a wonderful spotlight on Linda’s accomplishments as both a Rosemont graduate and a talented author.
A 40 Year Journey to Tell Her Family’s Story
In her interview, Linda Romanowski shared how her book Final Touchstones began with conversations with her grandfather decades ago. The non fiction work chronicles the emigration of her grandparents from Sicily to South Philadelphia in the early 1900s. It took her 40 years to bring this story to life, demonstrating remarkable dedication and love for her family’s history.
The book is beautifully structured as a series of 92 short selections written in both prose and poetry. These pieces are divided into three sections: Italian/Italian, Italian/American, and American/Italian. Together, they weave one cohesive, moving story.
Linda Romanowski earned her Master’s Degree in Creative Writing from Rosemont College, an experience she credits with shaping her as a writer.
Her success is a proud reflection of the strength of Rosemont’s Creative Writing program and the supportive community that continues to inspire alumni long after graduation.
Preserving Family Stories & Encouraging Others
One of the most inspiring aspects of Linda’s interview was her message to viewers. She encouraged everyone to preserve their own family histories by having meaningful conversations with older relatives and expressing those stories through writing. As she beautifully put it:
“Everyone has a story… and our stories are your stories, your stories are our stories.”
This powerful reminder highlights the importance of memory, heritage, and storytelling.
