Rosemont, PA- Rosemont College men’s soccer head coach Jesse Zafiratos announced that seniors Grant Gonzalez, Will Boehmer, and sophomore Alex Arriola have been selected as the team captains for the 2020 season.
“I couldn’t be more excited to name these guys captains. Each one of these student athletes brings their own leadership style to our program. Their dedication to this program has been awesome since the day I arrived”, said Zafiratos.
Goalkeeper Grant Gonzalez returns for a fifth year after being granted a medical redshirt. “Grant is the voice of our program. He demands the best of himself and everyone around him. His work rate is first class, and I can’t wait to coach him this upcoming season. With Grant in goal we have a chance to beat anyone”, said Zafiratos.
Defender Will Boehmer returns for his final season as a Raven. “Will really has grown on me a ton in my short time here”, Said Zafiratos. After being named All-CSAC in 2019 Boehmer is looking to finish up on a strong note. “His versatility and reliability to play anywhere on the field is something that really helps put us in a position to win.”
Midfielder Alex Arriola enters his second season with the team. He was named All-CSAC as a freshman and finished as the runner up for CSAC newcomer of the year. “Alex missed the first seven games of the season due to injury and when he returned we were a much more dangerous team”, said Zafiratos “His offseason has been unreal, every time I step on campus he is working his tail off. The guys respect him, he leads by example and he has earned this role.”
“The standard of this program has changed”, said Zafiratos. “We overachieved a lot last year by getting to the conference championship and now there will be higher expectations from everyone in this program.” “These three guys will be the ones to lead us day in and day out.”
Rosemont is coming off a very promising year in which they doubled their win total and advanced all the way to the CSAC Championship game. There they were dealt a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to Keystone College.
