A Note From the Alumni Association Board President
Greetings to all of my fellow alumnae,
Hoping that this letter finds you all well and enjoying this beautiful fall season; the leaves are turning, leaving the landscape a golden hue, the clocks will turn back next weekend, and we will be anticipating the holidays ahead.
I have had a very busy Fall season, starting with a trip to Ireland in mid September, which included a stop in Killarney and a visit to the McShain home! A bit of Rosemont history: John McShain, who was known as the “Man Who Built Washington” (The Pentagon, Jefferson Memorial, and many other famous buildings) also built Mayfield, McShain (Science), Cardinal, and Good Counsel on our beautiful campus.
His wife Mary attended Rosemont and their daughter Pauline became a Sister of the Society of the Holy Child Jesus. Pauline donated the house (Killarney House) and the 14,000 acres to the Republic of Ireland after her mother died. Killarney Park is 25,000 acres, which includes the property donated by the McShains. It is majestic, absolutely pristine and the pride of the Irish people!
This piece of history will be part of a book that is being curated by Joanne Campbell (Rosemont Sociology Professor) and her committee. I was delighted to have access to the house and to historical information given by the house administrators. I am happy to be included in this project. More to come!
Reconnecting at Our 50th Reunion
I also attended my 50th Rosemont Reunion. What a wonderful event for the classes ending in “0” and “5.” We had a great turnout. The weekend was filled with reconnection, remembrance, and love. Thank you to all who attended in each of the classes and to the Rosemont staff who made it so special. We look forward to many reunions in the years ahead!
Wishing you all great holidays – a thankful Thanksgiving, a joyful Christmas, and happy and healthy 2026! Hard to believe it’s around the corner.
To quote the Prayer of Cornelia Connelly:
- Let us love one another and pray,
- Let us love one another and be faithful,
- Let us love one another and be humble….”
My best wishes to you all,
