Rosemont College’s Writer’s Studio Summer Retreat is thrilled to offer an intensive and rewarding experience with acclaimed author Elise Juska. The Elise Juska Weeklong – Short Story workshop runs from July 12–17, 2026, and provides a deep dive into the art of short fiction.
This immersive six-day workshop is ideal for fiction writers of all levels who want thoughtful feedback, fresh inspiration, and practical strategies to strengthen their storytelling.
What to Expect in the Elise Juska Weeklong Workshop
Titled Short Fiction Immersion, this workshop offers a supportive and focused environment where participants will:
- Receive detailed, constructive feedback on works-in-progress
- Generate new story ideas and overcome creative blocks
- Explore essential craft elements including creating tension, developing complex characters, writing authentic dialogue, and more
- Participate in daily writing exercises and discussions
Writers are invited to submit one short story (up to 5,000 words) by July 1, 2026, along with three specific questions about their draft to guide the feedback process. Whether you’re polishing an existing piece or starting something new, this weeklong intensive will help you take your short fiction to the next level.
Meet Elise Juska
Elise Juska is a highly accomplished author and teacher whose work has earned national recognition. Her novel Reunion was named a New York Times Editors’ Choice and one of People Magazine’s Best New Books. Her previous books include If We Had Known and The Blessings, a Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers selection.
In addition, her short fiction and nonfiction have appeared in prestigious outlets such as Ploughshares, The Missouri Review, Harvard Review, and Electric Literature. She has received the Alice Hoffman Prize and has been cited in Best American Short Stories and Pushcart Prize anthologies.
