Rosemont College is honored to once again participate in the Dennis Farm Annual Symposium, taking place on Thursday, October 3 at the historic Dennis Farm in the Pocono Mountains. The event offers students a full day of learning, cultural engagement, and historical reflection.
This marks the fifth year Rosemont will take part in the symposium. Each year, the Dennis Farm Charitable Land Trust extends a generous invitation and provides charter bus transportation for faculty and students. The group will depart campus early in the morning and return by early evening.
Honoring History and Promoting Awareness
Throughout the day, students will hear from historians, scholars, and cultural leaders. They will also tour the farm and engage directly with its rich history. The Dennis family, whose ancestors were free African Americans, has preserved this land since the late 1700s.
To further their mission, the Dennis Farm Charitable Land Trust educates the public about African American history and protects a landscape with deep cultural value. Their efforts promote awareness, preservation, and dialogue. You can learn more about their mission by visiting their official website.
An Invitation with Purpose
The symposium aligns closely with Rosemont College’s mission. As a Catholic institution, Rosemont values justice, inclusion, and stewardship of creation. It also supports global social responsibility, a value rooted in our Catholic identity.
All students interested in this event are encouraged to attend. The learning goals and themes explored align beautifully with our Rosemont College mission and allow for a deepening of understanding of Pennsylvania history, and United States history, Social responsibility , land preservation, African American history and environmentalism.
Because the event lasts all day, students must commit to the full schedule. To reserve a seat, contact Dr. Christine Hagedorne at [email protected]
by Friday, September 12.
A Transformative Opportunity
In previous years, students created digital scrapbooks and written reflections after attending the symposium. Furthermore, many described the experience as inspiring and meaningful to both their academic goals and personal growth.
Overall, the Dennis Farm Annual Symposium offers more than education. It provides connection, community, and a deeper understanding of our nation’s history. Rosemont College is grateful to the Dennis Farm Charitable Land Trust for the invitation and for its continued partnership.
