A Fresh Approach to Creative Nonfiction
Many nonfiction writers believe that accuracy alone must guide their work. However, strong creative nonfiction also relies on craft, voice, and form. Therefore, this workshop challenges common assumptions and opens new creative pathways. Participants will explore how fiction and poetry techniques can enrich essays, memoir, and research writing. As a result, writers can shape work that remains truthful while also vivid and memorable.
Learn From an Experienced Instructor
Rachel Kolman will lead the workshop and guide participants through practical lessons and creative exercises. She brings experience as both a writer and educator. Moreover, she focuses on techniques that writers can apply immediately. Through discussion and examples, participants will see how scenes, imagery, and structure elevate nonfiction prose. In addition, Kolman will explain how creative choices help writers connect more deeply with readers.
The workshop introduces a wide range of essay forms. These include lyric essays, collage essays, and hermit crab forms. Each format offers new ways to shape ideas and stories. Consequently, writers gain tools to experiment and discover what best serves their projects.
Build Confidence & Complete New Work
By the end of the session, participants will leave with tangible progress. Each writer will complete either a polished essay or a memoir chapter. More importantly, they will gain renewed motivation to continue their projects. The workshop emphasizes encouragement, clarity, and forward momentum.
Rosemont College continues to support creative growth through its Writer’s Studio programs. This workshop highlights the importance of keeping creative energy at the heart of nonfiction writing. Writers who want to expand their skills and deepen their voice will find this experience both practical and inspiring.
