Discover Authentic Representation in Literature
Children’s, middle grade, and young adult books have the unique power to portray the diversity of human experience. Authentic disability representation is essential in these genres because it promotes understanding, challenges stereotypes, and celebrates individuality.
During this six week course, Rosie Ugliuzza will guide participants through the evolution of disability themes in literature. Writers will read and analyze contemporary books that feature strong main characters with disabilities. The discussions will help participants understand how to create complex, authentic characters who resonate with readers.
A Focused Learning Experience
This interactive workshop offers more than literary discussion. Participants will also:
- Study narrative techniques that bring authentic voices to the page.
- Receive individualized feedback to refine their writing craft.
- Engage in peer discussions that encourage collaboration and creativity.
