Hi Rosemont, Sam here!
Youāre Not āBad at Sleepā⦠You Might Just Be Overstimulated
Letās be honest, most of us arenāt struggling with sleep because we donāt care⦠weāre struggling because weāre constantly plugged in.
Phone in bed.
Scrolling ājust for a few minutesā turns into an hour.
Group chats, TikTok, Netflix, highlights, stress, comparison, all hitting your brain right before youāre supposed to fall asleep.
And then we wonder why we canāt shut our minds off.
This isnāt about discipline; itās about awareness, which you all have.Ā
Your brain needs a transition from āonā to āoff.ā
Right now, most of us are going from 100 ā 0⦠and it doesnāt work like that, unfortunately.
So instead of saying and telling yourself ājust get off your phoneā (because letās be real⦠you probably wonāt), try this:
Make small swaps, not drastic changes:
- š± Set a 10 ā 15 minute ālast scrollā timer. When it goes off, youāre done.
- š Charge your phone across the room instead of in your bed.
- š§ Swap scrolling for music or a podcast while you wind down.
- āļø Do a quick brain dump, write out everything on your mind so itās not racing at night.
- š” Dim the lights in your room 30 minutes before bed (your body cues off this).
- ā Cut caffeine after mid afternoon (yes, even that late pre workout).
Hereās the truth:
Sleep isnāt just about being āwell rested.ā
Itās about how you show up.
In class.
In your sport.
In your relationships.
In your mood and mental health.
We donāt need to be perfect; we just need to start being a little more intentional.
Because the version of you thatās rested? Thatās the version that performs better, thinks more clearly, and actually feels like themselves.
