Campus Ministry Updates

Today,  February 16, we have an Interfaith Luncheon at noon in Room B 17 in the Library. All are welcome.

Tomorrow, February 17 begins Lunar New Year – The Year of the Horse.  The celebration continues through Friday. Happy New Year to all who celebrate this special time!

Tomorrow, February 17 is also the beginning of the holy season of Ramadan. This sacred time begins at sundown and continues through March 19. We wish all of our community who observe Ramadan a blessed season. Our students who are fasting any day can see Darrell, Tao, Chef or Lisa to make arrangements for their meals.

Wednesday February 18, begins the holy season of Lent for Christians throughout the world. It is a time of prayer, fasting and almsgiving/charity that continues until the evening Mass on April 2. Campus Ministry will bless ashes and distribute them in the Community Center lobby between noon and 1 pm on Ash Wednesday. All are welcome to receive this symbol of our observing Lent. We will also bring ashes all afternoon to each building on campus for those who would like to receive them. We will have boxes available in the Community Center lobby for donations to Catholic Relief Services for their humanitarian efforts in places with great need.

This year Lent and Ramadan overlap so over 2 billion people worldwide will be praying, fasting and caring for those in need at this shared time. Several students and faculty have accepted Villanova’s invitation to join them for their Iftar on Thursday, February 19. Muslims observing Ramadan will break their fast during this meal.
