On Thursday, May 14, 2026, Rosemont College celebrated the achievements, perseverance, and promise of the Class of 2026 during its 103rd Commencement Ceremony. Graduates from the Undergraduate College and the School of Graduate and Professional Studies gathered with family, friends, faculty, staff, alumni, and trustees to mark this important milestone and honor the culmination of years of hard work and dedication.

A Memorable Ceremony Full of Tradition & Emotion
The ceremony opened with a processional led by bagpiper Brian Fox performing Sir Edward Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance, followed by the National Anthem performed by Carla Spataro, Program Director of the MFA Creative Writing and MA Publishing programs, accompanied on the piano by Dr. Francis Klose, Associate Professor.
Inspiring Invocation
In her invocation, Undergraduate College graduate and 2026 Founders’ Day Senior Class Leadership Award recipiant Makaila Keith ’26 reflected on the journey shared by the graduating class, offering gratitude for the support and guidance that carried them to commencement day.
“We thank you, God, for being with us through this journey and guiding us through our path. From our first days at Rosemont to where we stand today, you have held us in your love, mercy, and compassion, allowing us to extend that same compassion to one another.”

A Message From President Cawley
President Jim Cawley welcomed graduates and guests, recognizing the unique experiences that shaped the Class of 2026 and the resilience they demonstrated throughout their time at Rosemont: “This class more than any other in recent Rosemont history learned that community is not defined by circumstance, but by commitment. You chose Rosemont when you first arrived here – and when change came, you chose Rosemont again.”
He reflected on the many ways students remained engaged and invested in the life of the College, noting that they chose to lead, compete, create, preserve traditions, and build new ones during a transformative period in Rosemont’s history.
Looking toward the future, Cawley encouraged graduates to carry Rosemont’s values with them wherever life may lead.
“In the years ahead, may you live boldly, serve generously, lead compassionately, and remain grounded in the values that shaped your time here. And wherever life takes you, may you always remember that you are—and always will be—part of the Rosemont family.”
Stirring Student Speaches
Student speakers Olivia Jimenez ’26 of the Undergraduate College and Alea Giordano ’26 of the School of Graduate and Professional Studies shared reflections on their educational journeys and the impact of the Rosemont community.
“We are dedicated learners who will carry on our passion in the pursuit of knowledge. What makes a Rosemont education special is that ethics and social responsibility were embedded into every class.”

Giordano highlighted the welcoming environment she experienced during her time at the College.
“If there is one word that I could use to summarize the culture here at Rosemont, it’s one of acceptance… Inside these walls I found a true community by every definition: a sense of belonging, exposure to multiple perspectives, mutual respect, and a shared sense of purpose.”
2026 Commencement Speaker Senator Kim Ward
A highlight of the ceremony was the conferral of an honorary doctoral degree upon State Senator Kim Ward, who also served as the commencement speaker. Drawing from her personal and professional experiences, Ward encouraged graduates to embrace perseverance, remain true to their values, and recognize their ability to make a meaningful impact on others.
“Lean on your values of trust, dignity, persistence and compassion. These values will not only set you up for career success but, more importantly, give you the freedom to stay true to who you are.”

Ward shared a lesson passed down from her mother that has guided her throughout her life and career: “There is always a way, don’t give up. Never give up. There is always a way.”
She also challenged graduates to reject limitations imposed by others and pursue their goals with confidence and determination: “Never let anyone tell you that you can’t. Don’t take your eyes off the prize. Work hard and go!”
Throughout her address, Ward returned to a central theme of service and kindness, reminding graduates that positive change often begins with individual actions: “Because we never know what is happening in another person’s life, just remember, you have the power to help. Maybe we can’t change the world, but we can, in our own way, change our corner of the world and make it a little bit better.”

Welcoming the Newest Alumni
Following the conferral of degrees, Alumni Association Board President Eileen Finn ’75 officially welcomed the newest graduates into the Rosemont alumni community.
“I’m thrilled to officially welcome you into the Rosemont College Alumni Association. We look forward to further engagement with you in the months and years to come.”
The ceremony also included recognition of Golden Rose Alumni and concluded with the singing of the Alma Mater and a benediction offered by Sister Margaret Doyle, SHCJ, Vice President for Mission & Ministry.
As the newest Rosemont graduates crossed the stage and joined the ranks of more than a century of alumni, they carried forward not only their degrees, but also the values of service, leadership, compassion, and community that define a Rosemont education.
Their accomplishments, resilience, and commitment to one another have left a lasting mark on the College and serve as an inspiring example for the entire Rosemont community.
