Biography
Professor Gene Lanzillo is a retired Supervisory Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). From 2016 until his retirement, he taught crime scene management, evidence collection, and crime scene operations to members of the FBI’s Evidence Response Teams and New Agent Trainees through the FBI Laboratory Division in Quantico, Virginia. The Evidence Response Team is the FBI’s primary forensic response and crime scene processing organization. Before his Quantico assignment, Professor Lanzillo spent 14 years in the FBI’s Philadelphia Field Office and a tour at FBI Headquarters. He investigated national security matters in Philadelphia, including counterintelligence, counterespionage, and international terrorism cases. In addition, Professor Lanzillo led the Philadelphia FBI’s Evidence Response Team from 2010 through 2016 with major deployments, including the 2013 Boston Marathon Bombing, the 2015 Papal visit to Philadelphia, and the 2016 New York Chelsea Street bombing.
Since retiring from the FBI, Professor Lanzillo has worked as a full-time instructor at the National Geospatial-Intelligence College within the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency.
Before the FBI, Professor Lanzillo worked in private industry and spent more than a decade in the Army as a field artillery officer. His Army assignments included service in the 2d Armored Cavalry Regiment in West Germany and combat with the Regiment in the first Persian Gulf War.
Professor Lanzillo holds a BA in Political Science from Vanderbilt University and an MA in Homeland Security and Emergency Management from Rosemont College. He is a certified FBI Adjunct Faculty member for evidence collection and crime scene management and a certified Department of Defense Level-1 instructor. He has been happily married for over 26 years and is the proud father of a fantastic daughter. He also has a poorly behaved dog, Henri.
