Veteran Students
Rosemont College Welcomes All Veterans
Rosemont College welcomes current and former members of the US military, as well as their dependents. We are grateful for your service. Rosemont College is approved by the Pennsylvania Board of Education for veterans’ education and is a participant in the Yellow Ribbon GI Bill® program.
GI Bill® is a registered trademark of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). More information about education benefits offered by VA is available at the official U.S. government website at http://www.benefits.va.gov/gibill.
Eligibility for the various Veterans Affairs (VA) educational benefits programs is determined by your date of enlistment. In all cases, the final determination of eligibility is made by the VA. Rosemont College meets all the criteria for approval for veterans’ education under the provisions of Title 38, United States Code, Section 3675.
The form to request that your enrollment be reported to the VA is available online. You can access it through the Enrollment page.
Veterans Affairs GI Bill® Benefits
Students who are eligible to receive educational benefits from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs must contact the Office of the Registrar. The Office of the Registrar certifies the enrollment of all eligible veterans, dependents who are eligible to receive benefits, and members of the Reserves and National Guard who choose to use their veteran education benefits. The Department of Veterans Affairs determines the eligibility of each veteran. Benefits are dependent on the student’s enrollment status at Rosemont College.
If you are a new student at Rosemont College and would like to apply for GI Bill® veteran education benefits, please contact the Registrar’s Office at 215.527.0200 X2307. Students receiving VA benefits will be required to confirm their enrollment each semester they wish to use their benefits and contact the Certifying Official if their registration changes after reporting has occurred.
For general questions concerning your GI Bill® education eligibility and benefits, please contact the Department of Veterans Affairs at 888.442.4551 or visit gibill.va.gov. For monthly student verification of enrollment, please call 877.823.2378 or log on to WAVE that is transitioning to the new Verify Your Enrollment application. For direct deposit of monthly benefits, please call 877.838.2778.
Certify Your Enrollment at Rosemont
If you are a new Rosemont student or haven’t used your VA GI Bill® at Rosemont College previously, please follow the steps below so that we may start certifying your Enrollment at Rosemont.
- Apply for Veteran GI Bill® Benefits
Before Rosemont can start reporting your enrollment, you must apply to use your VA GI Bill® benefit. To apply for Veterans Educational Benefits, visit gibill.va.gov.
- Bring the Registrar’s Office Your Supporting Documents
After you have applied to use your benefits with the VA, bring your DD214 (Discharge Papers) and COE (Certificate of Eligibility) to the Rosemont College Registrar’s Office so we can begin the process of reporting your enrollment.
If you have previously used your benefits at another institution, you will need to complete the appropriate Change of Place form (VA Form 22-1995 or VA Form 22-5495) for your type of benefit and submit it to the VA.
Note: We can report information to the VA when we have both your DD214 and COE.
- Request That Your Enrollment Be Reported
Your enrollment is not automatically reported each semester. You must request that we report your enrollment to the VA each semester. Also, once we report your enrollment, if you add or drop a class, you must notify our office so that we can change the enrollment we reported. All eligible students will be reported after the end of the first drop/add period of the Fall and Spring semesters. Students not wishing to use their benefits for the semester must notify the School Certifying Official via email no later than 30 days after the start of the semester.
If your program runs on subterms, we encourage you to register for all your courses at the start of the semester so that we can report the complete semester at once.
Veterans Affairs Benefits Policies
In compliance with federal regulations, Rosemont College adheres to the following policies for students covered under Veteran’s Benefits:
- Rosemont College permits any covered individual to attend or participate in education during the period beginning on the date provided on the certificate of eligibility for education assistance under chapter 31 or 33 and ending on the earlier of the following dates:
- The date on which payment from the VA is made to the institution.
- 90 days after the date the institution certified tuition and fees following the receipt of the certificate of eligibility.
- Rosemont College will not impose any penalty, including the assessment of late fees, denial of access to classes, libraries, or other institutional facilities, or the requirement that a covered individual borrow additional funds, on any covered individual because of their inability to meet their financial obligations to the institution due to delayed disbursement funding from the VA under chapter 31 or 33.
- Rosemont College will assess all official transcripts from VA students and award them when the conditions outlined in the transfer policy section of this catalog are met.
- VA Benefit students are held to the same academic standards as all other Rosemont College students. Any student receiving VA benefits who falls below the set academic standard and is unable to improve their standing as outlined in the academic standards section of the college’s catalog will be dismissed.
Enrollment Reporting for Current Students’ VA Benefits
If you have been a student at Rosemont within the last year and haven’t transferred your benefits to another institution, we do not need a new copy of your DD-214 or COE.
Each semester, you need to request that your enrollment be reported to the VA and communicate with us if your enrollment changes throughout the semester (dropping, adding, or withdrawing from a class). Keep in mind that dropping or withdrawing from a class after your enrollment has been reported may result in you owing the VA a refund of disbursed funds.
Military Deployment
Rosemont College recognizes the challenges faced by military personnel and their families. Military students on deployment or permanent duty stations may encounter difficulties in completing coursework or degree requirements due to outside obligations. In support of deployed forces, Rosemont College will remain flexible and responsive to the needs of these students, both those receiving VA Benefits and those actively serving. The following options are available:
- Course Drop Procedure: Upon receipt of deployment orders, the Registrar’s Office will drop a student from class(es) under “justifiable circumstances.” No charges will be assessed to the student for the dropped class(es), and the course(s) in question will not appear on the student’s official transcript. If deployment orders are not presented to the Office of the Registrar, the student must follow the College’s standard withdrawal procedure. A retroactive appeal to have the courses and charges removed from the student’s record can be initiated upon delivery of the required deployment orders.
- Incomplete (I) Grade Option: Students remaining in a class after the drop/add period and desiring to complete the course have the option of petitioning their instructor for an incomplete (I) grade. If granted, students must complete all unfinished coursework by the end of the semester following deployment. If the course is not completed within the allotted time and the student has submitted a copy of their deployment orders, the course and tuition will be removed from the student’s record. If the student does not complete the coursework within the allotted time and did not submit a copy of their deployment orders, the incomplete grade (I) will convert to an “F” or failing grade for the course.
Transfer Credit for Military Service Training
Rosemont College may award transfer credit for validated military service training, experience, or coursework that is recognized by the American Council on Education (ACE). To receive credit, students must submit an official Joint Services Transcript (JST) for evaluation. The amount of credit awarded will vary according to the student’s program.
