Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies Minor Requirements

The Undergraduate College: Traditional, On Campus

The Undergraduate College Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies program offers a minor that requires 18 credits (6 courses) available with the Major of your choice:

Minor Courses: 6 credits (2 courses).

Minor Elective Courses: 12 credits (4 courses).

Under certain conditions, a student may have a minor field designated on their Rosemont transcript. Candidates for the minor must select 21-24 credits above the introductory level in a discipline. These courses are chosen from the Academic Offerings section of the catalog for approved minors. A minimum grade point average of 2.00 in the minor is required. Discuss with your advisor.

Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies Minor Courses

(6 Credits)

The Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies minor at Rosemont College offers an interdisciplinary program of study in the social, political, economic, and cultural aspects of gender. Courses in the WGSS minor explore the intersection of gender with ethnic identity, socio economic status, and sexuality. Students in any major program of study may minor in WGS.

WGS 0100: Introduction to Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies

Prerequisite: None

This course is an introduction to critical thinking about the construction of gender and the intersections of gender with race, ethnicity, class and sexual orientation. Drawing on material from a wide range of fields and media, the students will examine the ways in which these construction and intersections shape people’s lives. This interdisciplinary course will highlight multicultural perspectives in U.S. society.

WGS 0200: Diversity of Gender

Prerequisite: None

This course takes an interdisciplinary and multicultural approach to studying the impact race, ethnicity, class, sexual orientation and religion play in shaping the lives of women and men living in the US today. We will explore such areas as education, work, the media, and the family. We will incorporate feminist approaches from disciplines including psychology, sociology, history and religion for this discussion base course.
