Marketing Minor Requirements

The Undergraduate College: Traditional, On Campus

The Undergraduate College Business Marketing program offers a minor that requires 18 credits (6 courses) available with the Major of your choice:

Minor Courses: 15 credits (5 courses).

Elective Courses: 3 credits (1 course).

Under certain conditions, a student may have a minor field designated on their Rosemont transcript. Candidates for the minor must select 21-24 credits above the introductory level in a discipline. These courses are chosen from the Academic Offerings section of the catalog for approved minors. A minimum grade point average of 2.00 in the minor is required. Discuss with your advisor.

Marketing Minor Courses (15 Credits)

BUS 0205: Organizational Theory of Management

Prerequisite: Sophomore status or above.

A course providing a conceptual framework for planning, organizing, leading, and controlling through an examination of the theories and principles of management. Emphasis will be on group dynamics, motivation, communication, leadership, and conflict resolution and their application in the work environment.

Offered fall semester. (3 Credits)

BUS 0350: Marketing

Prerequisite: Sophomore status or above.

An introduction to the basic marketing theories and practices used to create and build profitable business relationships. These include analyses of marketing planning, segmentation, consumer behavior, product policies, pricing, promotion, and channels of distribution strategies.

The course emphasizes the application of these concepts in a socially responsible environment, in addition to including the use of marketing technology in a digital age.

The course provides a framework to be able to understand the commonly used research methods used in marketing, showing how to conduct marketing research, how to analyze data and showing methods used in the evaluation of data.

Offered fall semester. (3 Credits)

BUS 0355: Marketing Research

Prerequisite: BUS 0350 Marketing (prerequisite course also fulfills requirements for Finance, Management, Marketing, and Sport Management).

The course provides a framework to be able to understand the commonly used research methods used in marketing, showing how to conduct marketing research, how to analyze data and showing methods used in the evaluation of data. 

Offered spring semester. (3 Credits)

BUS 0365: International Marketing

Prerequisite: BUS 0350 Marketing (prerequisite course also fulfills requirements for Finance, Management, Marketing, and Sport Management).

The course provides an introduction to the challenges and scope of international marketing. Students will learn how to assess international marketing opportunities and avoid threats by studying the cultural, political and economic environment of global markets; and finally learn to develop international marketing strategies.

Offered spring semester. (3 Credits)

BUS 0395: Advertising

Prerequisite: BUS 0350 Marketing

An introduction to the theories and principles of advertising with a focus on current practice in advertising agencies. Topics include advertising foundations, planning and strategy, advertising media, advertising campaign strategy and an evaluation of commercials (print, television, radio, and Internet).
