Minor: Art History
Art History Minor
The Undergraduate College: Traditional, On Campus
Pablo Picasso said, ‘I am always doing that which I cannot do, in order that I may learn how to do it.’ The History of Art curriculum is designed to educate students in the study of the visual culture of Eastern and Western civilizations, from the first marks made by humans in caves through the contemporary art scene in the US and abroad.
Our numerous courses investigate painting, sculpture, architecture, decorative arts, photography, and film with broad chronological and geographical exposure. Our interdisciplinary courses explore areas of overlap between art, its creation, women’s issues, politics, language, criticism, and philosophy.
Art History minor students are supported in their journey toward transforming their passion into a fulfilling career. Our accomplished faculty ensure that you are surrounded by mentors and peers who expand your idea of what’s possible, encourage you to explore your interests, and help you reach your potential through the learning style that best suits your needs.

Why Study Art History at Rosemont?
“History of Art” students explore the history of art criticism to help define why we think what we think and why we write about the changing history of art, based on its founding mothers and fathers. History of Art students are encouraged to travel abroad and experience art firsthand.
We realize that figuring out your calling is a process, so Studio Art and Design faculty serve as mentors, truly getting to know each student’s talents and ambitions. From discussing the best coursework for your goals to introducing you to career paths you may not have known existed, professors and advisors support you through every step of your academic journey.
Our location in suburban Philadelphia is yet another fantastic resource. With renowned art museums, studios, and galleries throughout the city and surrounding suburbs, opportunities to land an internship or explore the works of both emerging and legendary artists abound.
Outside the classroom, the on campus Patricia M. Nugent Gallery is central to students’ artistic and professional development. Frequent exhibit openings bring accomplished artists to Rosemont, giving students opportunities to ask questions and meet successful people in their future field. Plus, every senior takes part in their own gallery show—an exciting preview of the process and feeling of pride that comes with displaying their work.
Rosemont's intentionally small class sizes foster deep connections among students and professors, enabling you to discover your unique voice and expand your professional opportunities. Our intimate academic environment encourages active participation in learning - you'll contribute to discussions, engage with diverse viewpoints, and think critically about your own ideas.
