Rosemont’s distinguished Master of Arts in Publishing degree, offered fully online, prepares you to excel in the dynamic world of publishing. Gain broad and in depth knowledge and understanding of the publishing industry, make connections, and develop your skills in editorial work, marketing, promotion, production, and more. Improve your writing, research skills, and ability to think creatively. Make reasoned and informed decisions that represent best practices regarding equity and inclusion in the publishing industry.
The Publishing Program at Rosemont College offers educational opportunities that allow for practical real world experiences, in depth research, knowledge of current practices, and interaction with industry professionals. Students build the foundation of their publishing knowledge with five core courses covering all aspects of the industry. Students can then choose six electives that make up the remainder of their coursework, allowing them to focus on their areas of interest, typically including editorial, marketing and sales, or children’s publishing (including young adults). All faculty members are professionals actively working in publishing, who also prioritize student centered instruction.
Look Forward to a Successful Future
In a survey of recent alumni, we found that 94% of respondents were employed full time in publishing or a publishing related field after graduating from the program. Notably, students who interned during their time in the program were similarly employed at a 97% rate. Our program's professors are actively engaged in the publishing industry, offering practical expertise and valuable connections to relevant organizations. Over the years, our publishing students have participated in a variety of internships at esteemed companies such as Macmillan (NYC), Philadelphia Weekly, and Simon & Schuster, among others. Rosemont College Publishing alumni have achieved notable success, including winning or being nominated for prestigious literary prizes such as the Pushcart Prize and major awards such as the John Newbery Medal or the Shirley Jackson Award. Rosemont expands its literary community through non credit courses offered under the banner of the Rosemont Writer's Studio. Choose Your Path to Success
The Publishing MA program empowers students to tailor their education by choosing an area of focus for their electives. These areas typically encompass digital, editorial, marketing and sales, or children’s publishing (including young adults). Additionally, students have the opportunity to enhance their degree by adding an embedded Graduate Certificate in Novel Writing. Furthermore, Publishing is offered as part of an accelerated double degree program in conjunction with the Creative Writing MFA degree.
Digital: For students interested in design or social media, our digital focused courses offer comprehensive training. Through these courses, you’ll delve into the latest and most widely used tools, such as Adobe InDesign, and explore marketing and promotion strategies across various digital channels. By mastering these skills, you’ll be well equipped to handle digital tasks within the publishing industry.
Editorial: Editorial work extends far beyond the written page, involving tasks such as contract negotiation, resource management, data analysis for informed decision making, and coordination with colleagues and stakeholders.
