Employee of the Month: Charles Kiah

Employee of the Month: Charles Kiah

For 41 years, Charles Kiah has been a welcoming face to everyone on campus. On June 2, 2026 he retired as a public safety officer. At his retirement party, he was awarded Rosemont’s Employee of the Month for June.

Charles started at Rosemont on February 9, 1981, in Rosemont’s Physical Plant as a janitor. He learned about Rosemont through his brother-in-law, Larry Trehan, who worked at Rosemont in the facilities department for more than 30 years and passed away in March 2021.

Over the years, Charles moved through the ranks as a Lead Custodian and a Custodial Supervisor. He joined the Public Safety department in 2021. Charles is known for his friendly conversations with members of the Rosemont community while doing his security rounds through campus and welcoming guests at the campus entrance.

“Working at Rosemont is the greatest job I’ve ever had," he said. “I’ve worked as a truck driver, at gas stations, and in cleaning services, but I have always loved the Rosemont community the most."

Charles also operates his own cleaning service company that he will continue to manage in his retirement.

Charles is looking forward to spending more time with his 10-year-old son, Khalil.

“Khalil’s the reason I’m retiring now," he said. “He sees me when I take him to school in the mornings, but then he’s asleep when I get home from my shift. I’m looking forward to spending more time with him like going on fishing trips and fun adventures this summer."

The whole Rosemont community congratulates Charles on being recognized as June’s Employee of the Month for all his contributions to the College. The goal of the Employee of the Month initiative is to recognize faculty and staff who go above and beyond to make Rosemont a better place each day. Charles has demonstrated repeatedly that our community can depend on him.

The Rosemont community will still see Charles’ welcoming smile on campus – he will stay on for per diem work as needed through the public safety department.

Congratulations on your retirement, Charles!
