Rosemont College announces an upcoming Writer’s Studio masterclass titled Character & Conflict. The event will take place on Saturday, March 21, 2026. The session runs from 10:00am to 3:00pm. It will be held in the Community Center Board Room. Lunch is included for all attendees.
This masterclass is part of the Rosemont College Writer’s Studio Workshops and Masterclasses for Spring 2026. The program highlights the power of strong storytelling through focused instruction and guided practice.
About the Workshop
Character & Conflict explores what makes stories resonate with readers. The session begins with one central question. What does your protagonist truly want? This workshop moves beyond surface goals. Instead, it examines the deeper motivations that drive action and shape choices.
From the opening moment, compelling characters pursue their desires with urgency. However, lasting stories require meaningful obstacles. Therefore, this class focuses on internal conflict as much as external tension. Writers learn how fear, doubt, and resistance create momentum.
Instructor Jodi Monster leads the session through a series of hands on exercises. These activities help writers uncover hidden motivations and unspoken fears. As a result, participants gain clarity about their characters and their journeys.
Why Character & Conflict Matter
Readers connect with stories that reflect real emotional struggle. Likewise, they stay engaged when characters face challenges that feel authentic. This masterclass shows how to maintain reader interest through the middle of a narrative.
Moreover, strong conflict builds empathy. When writers reveal the inner lives of their characters, stories gain depth and meaning. Consequently, readers care more deeply about the outcome.
