We’re thrilled to spotlight one of our most illustrious alumnae who’s about to hit a major milestone. On January 31st, Patricia “Pat” Carbine (Class of ’52) will be celebrating her 95th birthday.
The Illustrious Ms. Pat Carbine
If you haven’t heard of Pat Carbine, buckle up—her story is nothing short of inspiring. Born on January 31, 1931, in Villanova, Pennsylvania, Pat graduated from Rosemont College with a bachelor’s degree in English in 1952. From there, she dove headfirst into the world of journalism, starting as a researcher and quickly climbing the ranks.
Pat’s career highlights read like a who’s who of media and feminism. She served as an editor at LOOK Magazine, where she honed her skills in storytelling and visual journalism. But her crowning achievement came in 1972 when she cofounded Ms. Magazine alongside Gloria Steinem. Ms. wasn’t just a publication—it was a revolutionary force in the second wave feminist movement, tackling issues like women’s rights, equality, and empowerment with unapologetic boldness. Pat also played a key role in establishing the Ms. Foundation for Women, cementing her legacy as a pioneer for gender equality.
Rosemont Alumna Pat Carbine
Beyond her professional triumphs, Pat has been a steadfast supporter of Rosemont College. As a former trustee and loyal donor, she’s given back generously to the institution that shaped her early years. She’s crossed paths with icons like Gloria Steinem and Marlo Thomas, and her life is filled with fascinating encounters that could fill volumes.
What’s even more remarkable? At 95, Pat remains as active as ever, with a wonderful sense of humor that lights up any room. She remains both an absolute delight and a force to be reckoned with.
