Rosemont College is excited to introduce a new virtual workshop series titled AI and Writing, hosted by Professor Roseann Rissmiller. This six session series invites students, faculty, and professionals to explore how generative artificial intelligence is shaping writing in education and beyond.
As AI tools become more widely used, it is essential to understand their strengths and limitations. This workshop series offers practical insights, ethical discussions, and real time demonstrations. Participants will gain the knowledge and confidence needed to work with AI responsibly.
Workshop Series Overview
Session 1: Framing the Conversation: September 24th, 3:00pm
This session introduces AI and its connection to writing. Participants will learn how AI tools work and explore public opinions about them.
Session 2: Ethics of AI: October 1st, 3:00pm
Next, this session explores the ethical concerns that arise when using AI for writing. Through discussion and reflection, participants will build a personal code for ethical AI use.
Session 3: AI and the Writing Process: October 8th, 3:00pm
In this session, participants will use AI to brainstorm, draft, and revise writing samples. They will also consider when AI helps and when human input matters more.
Session 4: Avoiding Plagiarism with AI: October 15th, 3:00pm
This session focuses on using AI while maintaining academic integrity. Attendees will learn how to cite AI tools and avoid common mistakes.
Session 5: An AI Performance Review: October 22nd, 3:00pm
Here, participants will evaluate how well AI performs in real writing tasks. This session will reveal where AI excels and where it still falls short.
Session 6: AI Integration and Personal Practice: October 29th, 3:00pm
Finally, this session helps participants design a personal plan for using AI in writing. They will explore how to balance AI tools with their own creativity.
