Gift Will Foster Cultural Learning & Dialogue
Rosemont College and the Cultural Heritage Gallery proudly announces the gift of a remarkable African art collection generously donated by esteemed local artist James Caplan and his wife, Karin Volkwein-Caplan. The collection consists of 234 pieces, including sculptures, masks, textiles, and other cultural artifacts from various regions across Africa.
The collection offers a powerful glimpse into Africa’s rich artistic heritage, with works ranging from intricately crafted sculptures just a few inches tall to commanding pieces over seven feet high. The donation is set to inspire cultural appreciation, academic exploration, and community engagement across campus.
The Caplan’s gift also includes an endowed fund to support the collection’s preservation and future programming, ensuring the art remains a lasting resource for the College. The College plans to use the collection for research, exhibitions, and educational programs, ensuring that students and the community have access to these culturally significant works. The pieces will be displayed throughout Rosemont’s galleries, academic spaces, and other key campus locations, creating dynamic learning opportunities for students from all disciplines.
The collection will make its public debut during a special exhibition scheduled for the Spring Semester of 2025.
