Rosemont College invites the community to a special Garden Ceremony on Tuesday, September 22nd at 12:00pm. This harvest gratitude celebration marks the coming of fall, honors the earth’s seasonal gifts, and remembers the kind and generous spirit of the beloved Patrick Herman.
The gathering will take place in the Patrick Herman Memorial Garden and offers a meaningful moment of reflection, thanksgiving, and community connection at the turning of the season.
Celebrating the Fall Equinox and the Garden’s Harvest
The Garden Ceremony coincides with the fall equinox, a traditional time to give thanks for the earth and acknowledge the transition from summer abundance to autumn’s quieter rhythm.
Moreover, the ceremony invites the Rosemont community to pause together—students, faculty, staff, and friends—and recognize the value of shared stewardship. The garden continues to serve as both a practical growing space and a place of remembrance.
Remembering Patrick Herman
Patrick Herman was known for his warm presence and generous personality. The memorial garden that bears his name stands as a living tribute to his care for community and his love of gardening. This ceremony provides an opportunity to honor that legacy while giving thanks for the relationships and everyday kindnesses that shape campus life.
Gathering in the garden allows the community to remember Patrick not only in words, but through continued attention to the space he inspired.
As part of ongoing preservation efforts, the memorial bike will be removed during the Garden Ceremony. Due to weather-related damage, the bike will not return in the spring. When conditions improve, an honorary bike will be placed in its stead as a renewed symbol of remembrance.
