Outstanding Junior Award
In 1976, the faculty established the Outstanding Junior Award to recognize and honor outstanding work in a major field by a student in their junior year at Rosemont. The student must be in the top ranks of the junior class with at least a 3.67 cumulative GPA. They must be nominated by the faculty in their major discipline and selected by the Academic Standards Committee.
This year’s recipient is being recognized for their exemplary academic achievements and significant contributions to their major fields of study.
Over the past three years, this student has consistently demonstrated the exceptional level of intellectual curiosity, dedication, and a profound commitment to their studies expected of a Cornelian Scholar. With a perfect 4.0 GPA, their academic record speaks for itself, showcasing their ability to excel in both theoretical and practical applications of their chosen disciplines. Their ability to balance their academic pursuits with a wide range of extracurricular activities and volunteer work is truly remarkable.
Their resume is a testament to their proactive engagement in their fields of study beyond the classroom. Their contributions to the Rosenbach Library and Museum, particularly their work in researching special collections and curating items for public exhibitions, highlight their meticulous research skills and their ability to communicate complex information effectively. Their participation in archaeological field schools in Pompeii and Tuscany further underscores their commitment to historical research and artifact analysis, aligning perfectly with their future aspirations in Archaeobotany.
Beyond their academic and professional achievements, they are a dedicated and engaged member of the Rosemont College community. Their leadership roles, such as Student President of the Rosegrow Environmental Action Coalition and Vice President of Jest & Gesture, demonstrate their ability to organize, motivate, and lead their peers. Their volunteer work, including their involvement in the Land Acknowledgement project and their work as a Rosenbach Docent, highlights their commitment to community service and cultural preservation.
This year’s Outstanding Junior Award goes to Mia Hoppel.

Presidential Medal: Undergraduate
This undergraduate student’s exemplary academic achievements, distinguished service to Rosemont College, and unwavering commitment to our shared mission embody the very essence of excellence, leadership, and service that the Presidential Medal represents.
This year’s recipient is a dual-degree student, pursuing both his undergraduate degree in Business and his MBA, all while maintaining an impressive 4.0 GPA. He currently works as an Academic Tutor in the Student Academic Success Center, where he has proven time and time again to be a true asset to the campus community.
Whether it’s stepping in to help a fellow student at a moment’s notice or creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all who walk through our doors, he consistently demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills. He is reliable, responsible, and remarkably dedicated in everything he does.
Beyond his academic excellence and role as a tutor, he is also a standout three-sport athlete and an active member of the Rosemont Networking Society. The way he balances his coursework, graduate-level studies, athletic commitments, and campus leadership is a testament to his extraordinary work ethic, time management, and determination.
The Presidential Medal was awarded to Dominic Younger.
Presidential Medal: SGPS
This year’s recipient is not only a dedicated member of the Philadelphia Police Department, but also a passionate community advocate. In her role, she volunteered to serve as a Peer Support Mentor as part of the Philadelphia Police Department’s new Health & Welfare Initiative—supporting fellow officers and prioritizing mental health and well-being within the force.
Her commitment to service extends far beyond her badge. She is actively involved in numerous community organizations and initiatives, including the Juvenile Justice Center Partnership, where she supports the Community Evening Resource Center. There, she helps provide a safe and nurturing space for youth—offering everything from homework help and hot meals, to recreational programs like “Cooking with Cops” and “Cuts with Cops.”
She also contributes her time and energy to the Office of Violence Prevention, delivering educational programs to school-aged children, and joins efforts like the Honor Roll Celebration with State Representative G. Roni Green to recognize academic achievement and inspire excellence.
From reading to children and supporting local businesses through the 22nd Street Business Initiative, to organizing recreation center events, school supply drives, and summer camp activities—she is deeply woven into the fabric of the community.
Her work with vulnerable youth through Cater 2 You, Youth Haven, and her mentorship of young women through the Police Athletic League’s leadership and writing program, speak volumes about her passion for empowerment and lasting impact.
She’s also lent her voice as a guest speaker on teen dating violence awareness and as a woman in law enforcement, and participated as a panelist at the Youth Summit on gun violence—demonstrating her courage and commitment to difficult but vital conversations.
In 2023, she was rightfully recognized for her outstanding service, earning multiple accolades including “Officer of the Year” from both the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives and the Philadelphia Police Clergy, as well as several community appreciation awards.
The SGPS Presidential Medal was awarded to Sergeant Dawn Thomas.
