Rosemont College Students Attend the 12th Annual Dennis Farm Symposium
Rosemont College business students attended the 12th Annual Dennis Farm Symposium, hosted by Keystone College. The event took place in Susquehanna County, offering participants a chance to learn about African American history, cultural heritage, and environmental stewardship. Students were able to engage with experts and discover the rich history of The Dennis Farm.
The symposium featured a keynote address by Wade P. Catts, RPA, President and Principal of South River Heritage Consulting. Catts discussed recovering lost stories of Black Americans’ experiences during the Revolutionary era. His presentation, “Obtaining the Liberty He was Incapable of Enjoying,” offered valuable insights into the contributions and challenges of African Americans in early American history.
Jeremiah Baylor, a student from the Class of 2026, shared his thoughts on the event. “I had a wonderful experience learning about its rich history, including how free African American individuals lived and positioned themselves on the property during a time when the majority of Black citizens were enslaved,” Baylor said. His reflection highlighted the event’s ability to bring history to life.
Krystelle Jeremy, also from the Class of 2026, expressed her excitement about the trip. “I really loved being immersed in nature along with learning about the history and from the descendant of Prince Perkins. I’ve never been on a trip that revolved around someone’s family legacy before. I loved the journey and especially the long walk up the hill. It was an experience to remember,” Jeremy said.
After the keynote and presentations, participants enjoyed a reception and luncheon. The day concluded with a tour of The Dennis Farm. Students explored the farm’s deep historical and cultural significance.
The 12th Annual Dennis Farm Symposium offered Rosemont College students a unique learning experience. It provided a chance to connect with history and deepen understanding of African American heritage. The event demonstrated Rosemont’s commitment to offering valuable educational opportunities that blend history, culture, and the environment.
