Hunger and Homelessness Awareness week is a national effort with an international focus. Days before Thanksgiving, Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week (HHAW) is an opportunity to remind us what we’re thankful for, while calling to mind those, who in our global society, are experiencing hunger and homelessness. Defined as a social movement, HHAW is a platform where everyone involved can play a part in highlighting injustices, and put pressure on lawmakers to make positive change that will unite our society.

This year, the Rosemont College Summer Service Immersion embarked on a true adventure. These 9 Rosemont students would be immersed in a world so very different from their own at Camp Twitch and Shout. Not only were they surrounded by thick Southern accents, without a Wawa in 300 miles, but soon they’d be introduced to the Camp Twitch and Shout community, which as its tongue in cheek name suggests, is a camp chock full of children and adults with Tourette Syndrome.

Every year the feasts of Pentecost, the Blessed Trinity, and Corpus Christi, and the Sacred Heart arrive on the calendar very near to Commencement, week after week. I noticed that fact many, many years ago when I was a student myself. Those feast days were a sign summer was close at last! Then as a young Religion teacher, I missed the chance to talk with students about these feasts since they were either gone or on the way out. If still there due to an early Easter, they were not willing to humor me telling them how deeply the Spirit lived within them and how amazing – to believe in one God with three natures, yet united and connected as one Love.

We welcome this coming of spring time together. It is God’s gift to us. With joy, anxiety, with personal hope and needs, with the pressures of working in or attending college today and envisioning our future, with national and world concerns, with our longing for peace and desire for unity, we come together to share a prayer.
