Minors

Minors generally consist of six to eight courses in a particular discipline or in an interdisciplinary program of study. Currently, the Undergraduate College offers the following minors:

 

 The Bachelor of Science in Accounting provides a strong foundation in areas of financial accounting and reporting, cost and managerial accounting, auditing, and federal income taxation. Students will undertake all courses required for the Certified Public Accounting Examination in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

The biology major is intended to prepare students for careers in healthcare, research and development, education, environmental studies, graduate or medical school, and more. Students will graduate with an understanding of the foundations of biological concepts.

Stephen Hawking once said, “Science is beautiful when it makes simple explanations of phenomena or connections between different observations. Examples include the double helix in biology, and the fundamental equations of physics.”

Here at Rosemont, students have the opportunity to accompany their major with a strong background in biology through the minor.

The minor in Ethics and Leadership is an interdisciplinary program designed to provide students with a unique set of marketable skills and abilities for effective, values-based leadership. A core set of required courses introduces students to basic issues in the field of leadership studies and provides opportunities to put ideas and theory into practice. Elective courses from a variety of disciplines allow students to integrate the minor into their plan of study and connect it to their personal interests while exploring the connection between ethical leadership and social responsibility.

The Bachelor of Science in Finance provides a specialization for students who want to pursue graduate studies and/or employment within this field. The major in Finance prepares students to work in the fields of banking, insurance, financial analysis, wealth and investment management, in the government sector: raising and deploying capital, providing support for day-to-day cash management and pension fund support.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art believes that art has the ability to tell the stories of the past and uncover its secrets. Looking at the past allows us to look towards the future. Through art history we are able to look at art to determine the symbolism, colors, and materials significant to certain time periods and cultures based on the piece in question.

The mathematics program provides students with a strong foundation for a variety of careers in business, technology, science and more. Students will graduate prepared to move on to graduate study as well for careers in private or government sectors among many.

Philosophy asks fundamental questions about reality, knowledge, and values: What is the ultimate nature of reality? Is ultimate reality knowable? What do we mean by ‘knowledge’ or ‘truth,’ and what are the conditions for knowing anything? Is there an ultimate Good for human beings, and if so, how do we come to know it? How should we live our lives?

The political science program provides students with the skills and knowledge necessary to become effective leaders in an increasingly global society.

The major develops students’ analytic and communication skills, and offers students coursework in the United States and international politics, creating well rounded graduates. The political science program offers a pre-law certificate for majors and non-majors. With the certificate program, students will develop the skills necessary to become productive lawyers and leaders in the political field.
