Schedule

Day 1: Wednesday - January 3, 2018 

Day: Arrive in Athens! Check-in, attend on-site orientation, and embark on a brief walk of the neighborhood to get bearings 

Evening: Group Welcome Dinner 

Meals: Dinner 

Transportation: Airport to accommodations (one group transfer via private coach); accommodations to dinner (walking)

 

Day 2: Thursday - January 4, 2018 

Morning: Begin the day with a guided, walking tour of central Athens to see the most important monuments of the ancient city, ending at the Parthenon and New Acropolis Museum for time to explore the exhibitions 

Afternoon: Designated time for group classroom instruction 

Meals: Breakfast 

Transportation: Accommodations to visits (public transportation and walking)

 

Day 3: Friday - January 5, 2018 

Morning: Excursion to the Panathenaic Stadium, the world’s only stadium constructed entirely of marble and the home of the world’s first modern Olympic Games in 1896. From there, continue on to the Hellenic Parliament building by way of Greece’s National Gardens for a guided tour 

Afternoon: Break for lunch on own at Syntagma Square, Athens’ central gathering place adjacent to Parliament, then take the rest of the afternoon to work on writing projects/class 

Meals: Breakfast 

Transportation: Accommodations to visits (public transportation and walking)

 

Day 4: Saturday - January 6, 2018 

Day: Day-trip excursion to Delphi, one of Greece’s most important archaeological sites, to visit the Temple of Apollo, Museum of Delphi, and to explore the ruins of the ancient sanctuary. Return to Athens in the evening 

Meals: Breakfast 

Transportation: Accommodations to visits (private coach transfer)

 

Day 5: Sunday - January 7, 2018 

Day: Free day to explore Athens or to work on writing projects, with La Vida Local cultural activity suggestions available from CISabroad On-Site Program Coordinator 

Meals: Breakfast 

Transportation: Public transportation passes provided 

 

Day 6: Monday - January 8, 2018 

Morning: Excursion to the National Archaeological Museum of Greece, the largest in the nation and one of the world’s greatest collections of Greek artifacts from prehistory to late antiquity 

Afternoon: Visit Saint Dionysius Cathedral, seat of the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Athens, and the Church of Panagia Kapnikarea, a Greek Orthodox church and one of the oldest in Athens 

Meals: Breakfast 

Transportation: Accommodations to visits (public transportation and walking)

 

Day 7: Tuesday - January 9, 2018 

Morning: Class time 

Afternoon: Excursion to Philopappos Hill, a large park surrounding the area of the acropolis. Stunning views of the city are available from the top, as well as a number of important historical monuments scattered throughout, including the former prison of Socrates 

Meals: Breakfast 

Transportation: Accommodations to visits (public transportation and walking)

 

Day 8: Wednesday - January 10, 2018 

Morning: Class time 

Afternoon: Free to continue working on writing projects or to explore Athens, with La Vida Local cultural activity suggestions available from CISabroad On-Site Program Coordinator 

Meals: Breakfast 

Transportation: Public transportation passes provided

 

Day 9: Thursday - January 11, 2018 

Day: Depart Athens for the Corinth Canal, then continue on to Epidaurus, an ancient theater famous for its mysterious and exceptional acoustics; it is said that from the center of the amphitheater, spoken words can be heard with perfect clarity from any position in the 14,000 seats without the aid of amplification. Spend some time exploring the archaeological site before returning to Greece late in the afternoon

Day 10: Friday - January 12, 2018 

Day: Free day to explore Athens before the program ends, with La Vida Local cultural activity suggestions available from CISabroad On-Site Program Coordinator 

Evening: Group Farewell Dinner 

Meals: Breakfast, dinner 

Transportation: Public transportation passes provided

 

Day 11: Saturday - January 13, 2018 

Day: Check out of accommodations and transfer to the airport for flights home 

Meals: Breakfast 

Transportation: Accommodations to airport (one group transfer via private coach)
